Takara 2010 Special - Predaking

This is my third Predaking set. The first is the Takara Japanese boxed set from my childhood back in 1986; the second is the 2004 reissue Predaking; and this, the third.

Rather than leave it MISB like the 2004 reissue, I decided that I should open this set up. Secretly, I really wanted to experience the fun of applying the stickers, especially the 'eye' stickers that only this set has.

Here is the combined form with stickers applied.

Man, this is a really nice piece with perhaps 1 notable flaw - the arms of Predaking are too heavy and causes it to sag slightly. Perhaps the Japs had the right idea when they released their 1986 Predacons without die-cast metal parts.

This is a shot at 7am in the morning, yeah, pretty dark, but his colours go well with Black Zarak in the background.

Predaking!

Another shot to show his impressive stature

Predaking with Black Zarak... mmm... their colour schemes are very complimentary, especially since the 2010 Predaking has gold parts instead of yellow.

  1. Man, the first word that pops into my head when seeing those photos HD is "Yum!!!". :D

I think this particular reissue of Predaking is especially awesome, simply because he is so different and the often rare instance that this is actually to his benefit; The striking contrasts between the red, orange and black being broken up by the gold just makes for some very pleasant eye-candy and for the surprising fact of even the stickers slightly differing - This set really is worth every cent IMO. ;)

Which is why I'm really glad that I own one too! :D

P.S. I see you're still thinking about those eye stickers. :P

    1. Yum indeed, this is a nice nice piece! Like you I really appreciate this piece for the different stickers that it comes with, really sets it apart from previous releases.

I'm going to do the eye stickers, but then a little much on this past week, so have not had the free time to do them properly. I really wonder how the animal modes would work with red eye stickers, really going to be like red on red.

  2. Very nice. I need to remember to thank Akitaka Mika for designing him. And to be honest, the use of gold on him looks nicer than the use of gold on the reissue Star Convoy. ^^

    1. The gold does look great. Gold and black and red is a very good combination!

  3. Is that why his arms sag? I've never seen a Predaking that was completely plastic, so I thought that the arms were supposed to sag. I didn't put the eyes on mine either.

    1. Yes, that is why his arms sag - they are too heavy. The only plastic versions of Predaking are the vintage pieces, he was never reissued as completely plastic. Assortment 2 of the 1986 USA released Predacons were completely plastic and all 1986/7 Takara individual boxed or giftset boxed Predacons are also completely plastic.

On hindsight, I think that all plastic versions work better.

  4. That gold plastic looks really nice. I wonder if Black Zarak were to ever see a reissue if he would have similar gold parts? I still have my vintage Predaking, but this one has always been on the radar. I may just have to bump it up on the priority list...

    1. I think the gold goes really well especially when displayed with Black Zarak. You're right that if they ever reissue BZ, they'd probably use the same type of gold which is not so britter!

Which version of Predaking you have? I tried 'playing' with the 2010 Predaking last night and really the arms are just too damn heavy, the fiction joints in Razorclaw's legs are just not strong enough under the weight and he kept keeling over. In fact, there is no way to extend his arms and in stationary position, the arms are ALWAYS resting on Tantrum and Headstrong. I'm less and less a fan of the metal version Predaking, seriously.
