For my birthday this year, I did not prepare a rare and significant present like last year for myself in anticipation.
However, during the mid-afternoon, E and I had some time before our dinner and movie (Justice League) with friends and E suggested that we could go to the toy shops. We went and I visited the shop where I previously saw had a MIB Reflector (Takara version). These are the earliest of the Japanese giftsets and in my opinion, the best early Transformers giftsets out there. The main reason is that they are not just giftsets of combiners, toys that should have been sold together any way, but they are giftsets of individual characters, some which could be released together, but some that are surprising when grouped together.
So here we are in year Evil Autobothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01201308619800105567noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2683625406708498876.post-79393772739669227392017-04-30T14:38:00.001+08:002017-04-30T14:38:35.241+08:00Takara Transformers VSY: Grimlock versus Soundwave & Frenzy Giftset
Today, I am focusing on the VSY giftset, which is Grimlock versus Soundwave and Frenzy. Notably, the giftset comes with a storybook and a cassette tape which contains read along audio of the storybook. VSY was a late 1985 release and is in fact a re-release of 26-Grimlock, 17-Soundwave and 18-Frenzy, from a year ago. I obtained this set a couple of years ago. It was only in the past 2-3 days that I had taken the time out to photograph it properly and also to write about it.
It would be the first in a series of articles involving the Generation 1 Japanese "VS" sets.
The post focuses on the "VSZ" giftset, which is Sunstreaker & Skids versus Buzzsaw. Since a couple of months ago, I had wanted to start writing again, now that it is nearer the end of the year and also because things have quietened down. As far as possible, I have tried to photograph a character in its USA Hasbro box, its Japanese Takara box and also a loose toy in robot mode (since the in package toys are usually in vehicle mode). For some characters, where I have them, I would also try and include a loose toy in its alternate mode in the shot.

This photo came out odd. The Diaclone Marlboor Wheeljack is not yellowed, its just a little cream, but next to MP-23: Exhaust which is a very white share of white (is there such a thing), Diaclone Marlboor Wheeljack actually looks yellowed! Weird.

Some time ago, I bought all 5 Japanese boxed Dinobots from Devstar37 and considered my Dinobots 'complete' when complimented by the 2 loose sets (one for robot mode and one for dinosaur mode).

I am really tired sorting photos.
I am too tired to go and watermark stuff.
I am too tired to write more stuff when posting.
So, for this, and maybe the next couple of posts, you're just going to see lots and lots of Transformers, randomly, without watermarks, in no particular order and with no particular intent.
Enjoy.
