The dilemma with Decoys - Part 1

With the acquisition of Blue Bacchus some months ago, my G1 Transformers (US & Jap) collecting is more or less coming to a close. In other words, there wasn't anything that I'm consciously after there wasn't anything I was hunting and there wasn't anything on my 'want list'.

In any event, that's the key reason its been quiet. Sometimes, I do go out and 'upgrade' with some MISB, near-MISB or MOSC pieces like Goodbye Convoy and the MOSC Triggerbots / cons, but its happening less and less.

Anyway, nothing on my want list does not prevent me from toy shopping. So, I continued to visit YMT and MK quite regularly. On one of my trips there about 2 weeks ago, I popped in to visit my friend in Shop 221. I looked around the shop and noticed 2 sets of Decoys there for sale (to be honest, they must have been there forever, just that I never took notice).

I've never taken the Decoys seriously, always preferring the Takara SCF figures, but then Decoys qualify as vintage where the SCF figures do not.

I asked my friend about them: "Are these sets complete?"

"Yes, they are. But you'd need another 9-pack set to complete the series of 53 figures.", he showed me some images from Alvarez's "The Unofficial Japanese and International Transformers" guide by way of confirmation.

'You mean Decoys were that easy to complete?', I thought to myself. 'So its just these 2 sets of 22 figures each and another 9 unique figures and I was done?', I mused. 'I could live with that', I thought.

"How much are you selling these 2 sets for?", I enquired.

"HKD$*** for both", he answered.

Wow, that's a pretty good price considering that I would be 90% done with these 2 sets and it'd save me the trouble of having to hunt them down individually, a feat, which would have been monumental given that Decoys were only packed one-Decoy-per-toy with the Throttlebots, Aerialbots, Protectorbots, Technobots, Stunticons, Combaticons and Terrorcons back in 1987.

"Ok", I said, "I will buy them."

My friend was really nice because he also gave me his copy of "The Unofficial Japanese and International Transformers" guide by Alvarez together with the Decoys.

I'm a happy camper.

As can be seen above, some figures just does not sit properly in the packaging and some had to be squished into the package itself because they have raised arms or guns that were longer than the rectangle created to fit them.

Weekend update #1 - Shockwave and Triggerbots / cons

Catching up and updating on things that I acquired some time ago but not posted.

First its the MOSC Triggerbots and Triggercons. I bought these over a period of time at YMT. They were each on consignment, but the person who consigned them only put 1 piece up at a time.

The first he had up was Backstreet MOSC, which I intended to buy, but after deciding to walk around first then pick it was beaten to the punch by another person (I don't like him). A few days later, Override MOSC was put up for sale, but I decided to pass because it was yellowed inside the bubble and I didn't want that. Then, over the next weeks, these were consecutively put up and I managed to grab each one of them by being vigilant and visiting regularly! - Dogfight, Crankcase, Ruckus and Windsweeper.

Here they are...

Their package art is simply stunning (Ginraii may appreciate this)

Next up there is Shockwave (one of my all time favourite G1 Transformers in terms of both characterization and the toy).

I bought this from Skullcruncher on the OZ Formers boards as a for "robot mode" display piece, so I wasn't fussed about it missing its battery cover or the gun barrel. His left arm was however, broken off. Kup from OZ Formers was most kind and offered to help me repair the broken arm before on-sending it to me in HK.

And I have to say, Kup did a very very good job repairing it!

Here is Shockers in his full (restored) glory!

The arm has been repaired

The tip of the gun barrel was also broken off, but I asked Kup to leave it as it (he did sand it), because I thought a shorter barrel was more cartoon like.

Goodbye Convoy giftset MIB - #2

Here is Goodbye Convoy #2.

It is not a "new" acquisition, but is an item I bought close to 10 months ago when I was skiing in Hokkaido. For one reason or another, I did not have the time to do a proper write up of this gem, but as they say 'better late than never'.

The thing is, Goodbye Convoy #1 was not very satisfying in terms of condition, so I had to go out there and get another one!

Bought Goodbye Convoy #2 from Mandarake in Hokkaido and it is a sweet sweet set.

The box is in C7.5 condition, still not up to my usual C9+ requirement, but owing to its rarity, good enough. Some flap crease. Missing styrofoam insert (which I replaced with the insert from Goodbye Convoy #1 before selling the latter on eBay).

The toys are in sweet C9+ condition with stickers in the same C9+ condition and professionally applied.

Paperworks are all present, including the used sticker sheets and the very rare "goodbye" mail away coupon.

Sadly, this set was, like many others missing the 'Cybertron Heroes' poster - this has seriously been bugging me.

Will let the photos speak for themselves, enjoy!

Some general edge wear, but overall still very glossy and no major flaws on box front

SG Market Watch - one acquisition, Blue Bacchus #2 and seeing double

So I was in Singapore over the weekend. Fly in fly out type of trip, just the 2 days.

As usual, went to CSC on Sunday and looked around.

Took a few pictures of the weekly "flea market", but really not much because "photographs are prohibited". Ah well... here are some shots.

Lots of toys in a cage

A random shop

Some G1s surprisingly - Overlord, Star Saber, Sky Garry... not bad

Some more boxed Japanese G1s and loose G1s

I know right? Not as exciting as Hong Kong. Overall, it was not bad, just didn't manage to take much pictures because I keep getting told "no photos". Why? I don't know.

I picked up 1, yes ONE, lone thing this trip - this, Blood the Dark Warrior upgrade set.

I then went to my brother's place to pick up my second Blue Bacchus, which has been sitting there since late September this year. There is a story behind this, but will save it for later.

Seeing double....

On the seeing double note, here are 2 more 2 mores that I have snapped awhile back but just not posted...

02 x Goodbye Convoy giftsets (these are #3 (left) and #2 (right))

02 x Goodbye Megatron giftsets

02 x D-307: Overlord MIB (left C9, stickers applied, C6.5 box; right near C10, stickers unapplied, unused)
