This piece, 43-Blitzwing, is #6 of 36.
Here he is looking stunning. For this toy, I 'custom' trimmed all its stickers before I applied them.
In G1 cartoon continuity, Blitwing is one of the better known Triple Changers aside from Astrotrain. He featured in a number of episodes, most notably in the episode 'Triple Takeover'.
I loved the scene in Triple Takeover where Blitzwing was talking to the football coach and asking him for strategy. When the coach said he had none, Blitzwing said "tell me what's on your mind or I will splatter it on the wall and see for myself". haha, seriously, 80s cartoons has wittiest lines!
43 - Blitzwing out of its box. As can be seen, this is not really unused. Only comes with instructions and not other paperworks.
Close up of Blitzwing.
Since he is a triple changer, I thought I'd show him in his other modes, which is a plane and a tank.
Like I said, lovely toy and lovely addition to my Japanese boxed Triple Changers.

I never had Blitzwing as a kid. One Christmas way back when I was given Astrotrain while he was given Blitzwing. To this day I still need to get ahold of Blitzwing. I know, it's a shame.
ReplyDeleteColbey, you mean to say that you do not yet have a G1 Blitzwing (reissue or otherwise)? That's quite a revelation if true!
DeleteIts a very nice toy, but like you, I never got Blitzwing as a kid. The only Triple Changer I have is Springer, so I guess, I gotta be satisfied. Of the many triple changers, I think Blitzwing is the most fun, with of course Broadside being an absolute brick.
I had the bookstyle TFC reissue, but sold it when I was offered a hefty amount for it. Plus I wanted a vintage piece...just haven't gotten around to picking him up yet.
Deletei like the hefty amount part, haha...
Deletegood with the hunt for a vintage piece (won't be too difficult I think)
I've always loved this figure. My original doesn't want to stand anymore, so he's normally in a vehicle mode, but I keep the box style reissue in robot mode. He's just an outstanding figure!
ReplyDeleteThe box style reissue (TFC) version is pretty good - its got the sharp sword and powerful springs for the little missiles, very awesome.
DeleteLike I mentioned to Colbey above, I think Blitzwing is the most 'fun' Triple Changer. It's fun to transform. While some of the others are nice, I won't necessarily call Octane or Astrotrain or Broadside 'fun' to transform and play with.
Ah yes! Now this is a Bliztwing review HD! The latest Bliztwing doesn't even compare to the quality of this one. Please do a photo shoot of your G1 version destroying the new one.

The new Blitzwing has already been devastated by Devastator! *bam bam*
DeleteI always judged triple changers on their ability to disguise their second alt mode. In other words, when Blitzwing is a tank, you shouldn't be able to see any airplane parts or when in airplane mode you can't see any tank parts. Blitzwing pulls this off okay, but of course the nosecone is visible in tank mode and the turret is visible in airplane mode, somewhat ruining the illusion of a triple changer. I think the one that accomplishes this the best is Astrotrain due to how the wings wrap around the fuselage to create the train. All the 1986 triple changers are horrible at this (especially Octane with his arms flailing about) so personally I think Blitzwing is second best in this category. Also, that is a beautiful box.
ReplyDeletei agree with a lot of what you said. Key thing is for them to be able to hide their Alt modes. Agree also that Astrotrain and Blitzwing seems to be more sucessful than the others at this. Octane is horrible - the arms, man, where do i even put them. Just seems like its an after thought or very bad design.
